报告题目:MINERAL PROCESSING FROM ACADEMIA TO INDUSTRY: A personal perspective

The greatest challenge to mineral processing engineers today is to meet the mineral demands of the modern civilization in an economically viable and environmentally responsible manner. This seminar will cover my personal experience and perspective on many issues having been faced by the university departments and the industry during the boom-and-bust cycles in Australia, USA, and Canada.

The latest developments in flotation and comminution, including bubble-particle capture, hydrophobic colloidal forces and advanced diagnostic techniques of AFM, Cryo-XPS, SFG and Micro-XCT, will be highlighted. These innovative research activities have helped us to publish in high-impact factor journals to meet the expectations of universities and compete for research funding from the Government funding agencies.

报告题目:ACADEMIC WRITING: How to write good papers and get them published?

Academic writing is an important part of our research training. We write to publish our ideas and research outcomes, graduate (theses) and get jobs (CVs, cover letters and selection criteria) and research funding (research grants). Each of these writing tasks is different (different structures, different challenges). In this seminar, I will focus on writing our papers. I will provide generic approaches to writing: both bottom-up and top-down approaches can be applied, but each of them fits different time spans and scales. Effective writing appears to be part of our research activities from the beginning rather than meeting our reporting responsibilities at the end of our projects. We will use some available paper drafts to discuss the challenges and improve them for submitting.
